My initials are HEK. So are my dad’s. I really don’t need to be anonymous but thought what the heck, why not make it a bit cryptic?
I have always been a conservative. I remember watching with eager anticipation Reagan’s defeat over the completely incompetent Carter in 1980. In 1984, after turning 18, I got to vote for the Gipper. My votes have been straight downhill from there.
For some reason, oh yeah – employment, I moved from Arizona to Los Angeles a couple of decades ago and it was there that my rage against the left really took shape. Getting married, getting a mortgage, and having children have moved me only slightly to the left of Atilla the Hun. No Mongrel hordes yet.
California has been run by the left for at least 2 decades. At one point we had a couple of moderate Republican governors and a legislature that was Democratic but somewhat sane. Today the left has destroyed everything that made California great and is only referred to as the Golden State with a heavy sense of irony.
So here I am, putting lawn signs for Republicans in front of my house that get stolen, actively campaigning for Republicans who have no chance in winning, and writing a blog that I hope someone will read. I am in exile. I am a refugee from sane government. I have cultivated a network of people who are also in the closet here in California. We talk in codes. We have secret signs (hand over heart during the National Anthem is a dead giveaway.) Winston was one of them.
I am a happy pessimist. I think California, the country and the world are doomed but I still don’t have to like it. This was the greatest state in the greatest country in the world. California and America are worth saving. The alternative is really too much to bear.
